Boundaries and Liberation: Defying the Pharaohs in Our Lives
In a universal context, the story of Pharaoh in the Bible symbolizes the archetype of oppressive, controlling figures who refuse to let others step into their God-given liberties, freedoms, and authentic self-expressions as individuated divine sparks of light. So, being more than just a historical or biblical ruler, Pharaoh represents the energy of resistance to individual and collective spiritual liberation, personal growth, and psychological transformation. This resistance to freedom, growth, and authenticity is not just confined to ancient narratives though and it remains a living dynamic that continues to surface in our lives today. And whether this archetype appears in authoritarian leadership, toxic relationships, or societal systems designed to suppress our psychospiritual advancement, the story of Pharaoh stands as a powerful symbol of the spiritual battle between the oppression of our divine essence and the liberation of our authentic, God-given potential.
The reason I want to share this with you today is that I have been overcoming the spirit of Pharaoh in my own life and I want to help you identify the Pharaohs in your own life as well—which are those people, structures, and dynamics that work tirelessly to keep us confined, silenced, and disconnected from our true selves as divine sparks of light. From my own personal experience, these Pharaoh-like figures often operate from a place of fear and insecurity, where their disconnection from God leads them to try and dominate and control those of us that are surrounding them in order to maintain their fragile sense of self and power. They often use tactics like shame, guilt, manipulation, control, and intimidation to keep us bound under their reign of spiritual oppression, attempting to convince us that breaking free and stepping into the light of our own liberation and authenticity is too risky or even impossible. However, recognizing these dynamics for what they truly are is essential in reclaiming our God-given liberties & freedoms and for fully stepping into the authentic self-expression of who we were created to be. And once we identify these Pharaoh-like figures in our lives—whether they appear as individuals, collectives, societal systems, or ideological frameworks—and the subtle ways in which they seek to hold us back, we can take intentional steps to break their hold over us, whereby standing firm in our boundaries, we can begin to walk boldly in the divine purpose and freedom that is our birthright.
Moving forward with this understanding, when we stand up for ourselves or push back against this spirit, standing strong in our boundaries against these Pharaoh-like figures is not merely about defiance; it’s about declaring our own inherent worthiness & value and it’s about honoring the divine light within us. These figures may also try to twist the narrative, claiming that we are the ones shaming, manipulating, guilting, controlling, or intimidating them. But in reality, they are the ones who have been wielding these tactics all along against us, where they’ve been resisting accountability for who they’ve been throughout their lives, and also clinging to the control over others that they’ve grown so accustomed to having. Bearing these things in mind, their resistance to our liberation and psychospiritual growth often stems from fear of their own inadequacies being exposed, fear of losing power, or fear of confronting the truth about their way of being. Yet, by standing firm in our boundaries, we send a clear message that we will no longer allow their dysfunction to dictate our lives and that we will continue stepping into the fullness of our God-given freedom, regardless of their attempts to hold us back. Furthermore, their efforts to twist the truth of our liberation into something harmful will not succeed against us, as we possess the spiritual discernment to see right through their manipulative tactics, where we will remain steadfast in our own pursuit of authenticity, growth, and divine alignment—whether they approve of it or not.
To be completely honest though, the journey of reclaiming our divine freedom and stepping into our most authentic, psychospiritually healthy selves can be a challenging path, as this process often requires us to confront uncomfortable truths about the relationships, structures, and patterns that have kept us bound & in captivity. And in facing these truths, we inevitably face resistance from those invested in maintaining the status quo, which are those Pharaoh-like figures who often resist us when we attempt to take up space in our spiritual liberation and personal growth, where they retaliate whenever they feel their sense of control, dominance, or authority is threatened, using every tactic in their arsenal to pull us back into dynamics that once served their sense of power and self-interest. However, we must remind ourselves that establishing and maintaining boundaries is vital for preserving our psychospiritual well-being, as these boundaries protect the space where our light can shine most brightly—where our authentic selves can thrive, grow, and align with our divine purpose without interference. For these reasons, setting boundaries is not only a sacred act of self-respect and spiritual alignment, it is also a declaration that we will no longer allow ourselves to be diminished or controlled by the people, places, or systems operating with the spirit of Pharaoh.
Keeping this perspective in view, standing firm in our boundaries not only frees us from the spiritual captivity, psychological strongholds, or the religious bondage we were under when we lacked boundaries with the spirit of Pharaoh, but it also directly challenges the dysfunctional systems and energies that have perpetuated this oppression on our spirit. So, despite the resistance, backlash, or attempts to undermine our own healthy sense of divine freedom, personal growth, and authenticity, our refusal to bow to these Pharaonic forces sends a powerful message out into the universe, which is that control and manipulation have no place in our personal lives where God’s freedom should be reigning supreme. And as a result of this, this stand we take can inspire others in their own life journeys, showing them that liberation is possible and that their light, too, is worth fighting for. In this way, we become catalysts for transformation, where standing up for ourselves against Pharaonic energies ripples out into the world around us, paving the way for greater individual and collective liberation, healing, and growth, where we end up weakening the overall stranglehold of psychospiritually oppressive people and systems that are still deeply asleep in their own unconsciousness.
As we draw this illumination on the spirit of Pharaoh to a close, the story of Pharaoh is not just about resistance to freedom, growth, and authenticity; it’s about the triumph of authentic light over the darkness of systems, dynamics, and individuals that are operating from a place of spiritual desolation and unconsciousness. It also reveals the enduring truth that even in the face of such relentless opposition, the divine spark within us has the power to overcome and illuminate the shadows around us, where we can rise above fear, stand firm in our authenticity, and embody the freedom and light that we were always meant to share with the world around us. Moreover, through this lens, we see that this narrative reminds us that while oppression and resistance may persist against us, an unwavering commitment to our own psychospiritual liberation ultimately prevails. And by embracing our divine essence and standing firm against the forces that seek to suppress it, we not only transform our own lives, but we also help contribute to the healing and awakening of the world around us. So, let us continue to shine our light brightly, inspiring others to do the same, and together we can overcome the shadows cast by the Pharaohs of our time as we step forward into a future filled with the spiritual freedom, psychological growth, and divine alignment that we each have a right to access.

End Note
**********************************
While it is vital to remain vigilant against the Pharaohs in our external world—the oppressive figures, systems, and dynamics that seek to confine us—it is equally important to become conscious of the Pharaoh within ourselves.
This internal Pharaoh represents our own fears, insecurities, and the limiting beliefs that we have which resist and hinder our own psychological and spiritual growth. And more often than not, the greatest battles we face are not just with any of the external oppressors we face, but they are with the self-imposed barriers that keep us from stepping into our true potential.
Taking this into account, when we acknowledge and confront the Pharaoh within ourselves, we gain the power to start dismantling the internal strongholds that mirror the oppression we experience externally. And this inner work is key to overcoming the external Pharaohs in each of our personal life experiences, as it strengthens our resolve in standing against those contrasting spiritual forces that have made it their mission to suppress us.
So, when we take the time to heal and liberate ourselves from the internal oppressor within, we not only transform our own lives, but we also enhance our own ability to effect beneficial changes in the world around us, where we are able to bring about said changes in real, tangible ways that we weren’t able to do so before.
With that said, while the information I provided in the main reflection (concerning the external force of Pharaoh) offers valuable knowledge, insight, and wisdom, becoming conscious of the Pharaoh within is equally crucial for true liberation.
As a result of this, this awareness of the Pharaoh within empowers us to start breaking free from all forms of bondage—both internally and externally—and to fully embody the divine light within us that we are meant to share with the world.
So, as we conquer the Pharaoh within us—subsequently leading to the conquest of the Pharaoh without—we can inspire others to do the same in their own life’s journey. And together, we can pave the way for a world where authentic light triumphs over the darkness that seeks to keep us in spiritual captivity & bondage.
